What laptop should I buy?

There are several laptops available in the market today. Each manufacture has a wide range of different laptops. And with a global market you can find laptops from different manufacturers all being sold in different places around the world. For a first time laptop buyer all this can be overwhelming and they could end up buying a laptop that was suggested by the salesman at the mall. The salesman may not necessarily have sold you the right laptop for you.

So the question that arises is what laptop should I buy?

The answer is different laptops are made to target a different need or demand in the market so the laptop you should buy is one which fulfills your computing needs. Broadly you can divide laptops into two types: netbooks and full size laptops

If you wish to buy a laptop that you will use predominantly to browse the internet then a netbook is just what you need. A netbook is a no hassle device built for quick access to the internet. In fact with most netbooks you can access the internet without the need to boot up the operating system.

A netbook is light and compact however then screen size could be too small to watch movies. Also the 3 cell battery would not last long if you tend to spend long hours on the internet. It also does not have an optical drive.

If you wish to buy a laptop to replace your desktop then a full size laptop is what you need. Here are a few points you should keep in mind while buying a new laptop.

Memory – A minimum of 2 GB of memory is what you would require to run the latest operating system. If you tend to multitask and play games then you need at least 4 GB of memory to seamlessly run the programs. Also if your laptop has a graphic card that shares physical memory then you would need 4 GB of memory.

Hard drive – Most new laptop computers come with at least 160 GB of hard drive space. A 320 GB hard drive would be enough to store all your data and music. You can opt to buy a hard drive of 1 terabyte or more.

Battery – if offered the option opt for a 9 cell battery instead of a 6 cell one. A 9 cell battery has a higher standby and operating time than a 6 cell one. Which means you can use your laptop for long time without the need to charge the laptop.
